Acupuncture & Cupping for Mood and Pain

Dr. Deb Thorne was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture in 2002 by Dr. Guojian Huang, MD, who trained and mentored Dr. Thorne in Canada in the art and science of this ancient healing method. She continued to practice this modality while receiving her western medical training to maintain her skills. In 2021, she enrolled with Acumed Integrative Structural Acupuncture training for Physicians under the direction and guidance Dr. Joseph Audette, MD, Dr. Allison Bailey, MD, and world-renowned acupuncturist, Kiiko Matsumoto. L.Ac. to study Japanese acupuncture. She is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

Integrated acupuncture with Dr. Thorne is more than acupuncture. She utilizes a variety of methods to evaluate your condition by tapping into her training in both allopathic and naturopathic medicine, herbalism, mental health, functional medicine, myofascial release and fifteen years of advanced massage therapy. Beyond the physical, she explores how the body holds onto trauma and stress and encourages various means of clearing this through different protocols.

Integrated Acupuncture is beneficial in treating many physical and emotional areas of dis-ease:

• Back or neck pain

• Headaches and migraines

• Joint problems

• Myofascial pain/fibromyalgia

• Pelvic and abdominal pain

• Plantar fasciitis

• Trigger points

• Depression/Anxiety/PTSD

  •

Cupping has been around for thousands of years and dates back to ancient Chinese and Egyptian medicine. Cupping was documented in one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, Ebers Papyrus, which was written in 1550 BC.

Today, cupping has been popularized by both celebrities and athletes alike as the unique circular bruising is easily identified.

It is widely used for pain relief and musculoskeletal injuries, such as strains, sprains, back injuries, and inflammation. It is akin to getting a deep massage as it encourages tissue oxygenation through increased circulation. Cupping can be a stand alone treatment or paired with acupuncture. Most patients feel immediate relief after the cups are removed and note an overall sense of relaxation.
